Hi - just wondering if my park lights should be on in both positions of the light switch. They come on now if I pull the switch to the first position, but are off when I pull the switch all the way to headlights. I have a 37 gmc 1/2 ton. I woulda thought you'd want the park light/running lights on in both modes - when the headlights are on, presumably it's dark out and you'd want to be seen from behind as well. Anyways, let me know if you know.

parking lights are the front small lights, only on in the 'park' position of the switch - running lights are a more recent concept, if you prefer to have running lights [parking lights on with headlights], there's a tech tip for that - tail lights should be on in both positions, if your tail lights go off when you switch on headlights, you have a wiring problem

Park lights do not illuminate when the headlights are illuminated.

Does your '37 have tail light(s)? It should illuminate when either the headlights or park lights are illuminated.

I recently adapted turn signals on my 49 3100 and use the front parking lights for turn signals & still maintain the standard parking light feature.
IMHO when I'm running w/the headlights on, I like the idea of the parking lights being off as it seems to make the flashing parking lights more noticable when using the turn signals.

The way traffic is around my way, I definitely want those around me to know when I'm turning and/or brakeing grin

I have a new harness from Jim Carter and two tail lights. I've also added a dual contact socket in the rears so that I have a brake, and a combined signal and a park/tail. I think i probably have something wired wrong because the tail lights are acting like park lights and are turning off when i put the headlights on.
I don't mind the park lights on the front going off when the headlights are on, but I'll have to change my wiring to keep the tail light/park lights on the back on.
I just wanted to see if originally the single driver side tail light was supposed to be on all the time and it sounds like it probably was.

Should be a terminal on your headlamp switch for tail, and one for park.

Make sure the tails are on the right post.
If you want the parks on with the tails make a jumper

The tails should say on with the headlamps
