I'm getting things lined out so that I can paint the interior of my '66. I have my paint codes figured out and I was planning on using a DuPont single stage but my jobber is telling me that I have to use base/clear on the interior because single stages are all but gone. Does this sound right? I planned on using b/c on the exterior since my factory paint is a metallic but I really don't want to fool with that on the interior. What did you use on your interiors? I'm sticking with the factory colors, dark fawn for the dash and light fawn for everything else.

by "all but gone" your jobber means Dupont is dropping the Centari and Nason lines [single stage] .... find another brand, they're out there

All but gone, means your jobber doesn't or isn't agreeable with shooting a single-stage paint system.

I wanted to spray the firewall before I put the engine and tranny in our 66 Burb. Like you, I will have a body shop do the main body and spray work, because I am anyhting but a body man. I wound up buying a $30 HVLP Gun from Harbor Freight, and used I believe the brand name is Omni single stage paint. The numbers cross reference to the PPG color charts for the inside and out. I painted the firewall and the wheels, and I was amazed at how good it come out. It just flows together afterwards, and it has a gloss and flatness, that is probably way better than I ever needed. You would probably get better advice from the "Paint" forum here, rather than this one, but that's just my 2 cents from someone who does not do it all the time.

PPG has single stage Omni urethane and DCC Delstar single-stage urethane (top of the line single-stage urethane).

How much do you thin the paint and did you first sand with 320 grit sandpaper then clean the grease and dirt off with paint thinner then spray and how many coats I have never tried to spray paint but would like to give it a shot at 74 I know I can learn alot

Bob, use a proper 'grease and wax remover' rather than any thinner, and use it before sanding so the sanding doesn't grind the junk down into the primer or metal - use the remover again and a tack cloth after sanding to be sure it's really clean and dust free

Well I've talked to the Dupont people and today I talked to a local PPG supplier and he said that he could mix me up some single stage in my interior colors but he couldn't do it flat or semigloss like it needs to be. Exterior colors are no problem but he can't do the interior. He suggested that I get online and maybe I can find what I need there. Any ideas on where to start? Surely someone out here has painted their truck with original colors. I can't believe that it's that hard to come up with.

We use/add PPG flattener in PPG single stage urethane (for interior paint). We add it - the PPG supplier does not add it.
