I recently traded for some very nice older chrome accessories for my 49 3100. A grill, bumpers, bumper guards, door handles and hood emblems. I've washed/waxed and polished them but theres still some old staining and who knows how many yrs of smudges etc still on the chrome. What product/method can remove and/or buff old chrome back to like new condition?

A very fine steel wool and chrome polish may help.

It's the most amazing metal polish I've ever used. It removed oxidation and rust from my 66 year old hood side emblems over the weekend and brought them to an unbelievable shine.

Lately I've been using a buffing wheel with luster polish.

I always use #0000 steel wool, not #000 but #0000. With simple green soap diluted a little with water as a lubricator. Soak the patch of wool with it and keep the part wet with it. Don't rub too hard, LIGHTLY RUB and stop when paint/rust/tarnish goes away or you will eat thru. Rinse with water, dry..... and follow with polish if you wish. Rust is tricky because it can be in the pits. The wool will remove it but under the rust sometimes lies de-chromed metal! ugly. Nothing you can do except go slow and stop as rust almost disappears if you have a part like that. Surface rust/oxidation comes right off and shine is renewed. If it has pits and bubbles, it can only be "restored" so much before re-chrome is necessary.

I'd suggest a wax follow up just to help keep the rust from reappearing.
