Unless you are keeping your rig stock, remember that an alternator is a option. Not to difficult to do the swap either.
If the cost/availability of a new generator is a issue, a auto electric shop could probably rebuild your existing unit quite reasonably.
Has someone tested your rig to verify that the generator is at fault...there are other components in the system that could cause a no charge condition! It's hard on the bank account to just replace items until the problem disappears.

There is one shop in my city that does the rebuild but he's leaving on vacation for 10 days. Hoping to remedie this b4 then. Altenator conversion is okay but the gain/ lose is what I question. Seems to me both sides have valid points. Thanx for your imput I'm still on the hunt. Not really in a rush so--- Jack
