Some sites say it is from 1952 others say they have no information for "KEA"

Anyone help me further decode engine number KEA775I75, this is out of my 47 Loadmaster.
Thanks in advance

What other information would you like to obtain?

It has not changed: KEA is a 1952 235 engine on a 6000 series truck.

Yes this has no info on what a KEA series is just ??? marks. It appears there is another site that says it is from a 6000 truck motor.

This is where it gets fishy I don't have the photo of my vin tag but is extremely worn and I have to find out if I have a 1.5 or 2 ton truck then. I will take a picture and pm you guys tonight.

Thanks in advance!

what's fishy about a 66 year old truck no longer having it's original engine? Tim pointed you to the GM 52 info where the code says the engine is a 52, so that tells you it's not going to match the details of your 47, no matter what series - the various other sites that have info [or not] mean nothing

I under stand that a 6000 series is a 2 ton,
4000 series is 1.5............

does it have a 2 speed rear axle, if so it is a 2 ton, if not it is 1.5 ton

more good reading

Joker,

I'll see if the 1947 manual is now listed at the GM Hertigae site; however, in 1948 (the link you gave) 2-speed axles were available on all 1.5 and 2 ton trucks.

Big Pink might need better detective work to distinguish between 1.5 and 2 ton?

The 1947 Specifications Manual shows that 1.5 and 2.0 ton trucks had 2-speed rear ends as an available option.

5000 & 6000 series trucks can be 1.5 ton or 2 ton.

I have the single speed axel and am just trying to get the documentation for the state patrol as to what it is BEFORE I have to take it to inspection.

I could just say it is a 1.5 ton but if it isn't I'd feel I was misrepresenting the truck. I am trying to be as honest as possible here.

maybe they can tell you what you have...
I guess the sure way is to find the tag
that will tell you the gross weight that it can haul..

don't your title show the gross weight and critical stuff you are looking for..

yes, calling it a '1.5T' or a '2T' is meaningless, what they'll want is the GVW, which could vary depending on wheel/tire equipment and springing, the trucks are pretty much identical otherwise - if the vehicle doesn't have the tag on it, then go by the manual - or get the info kit for your year and print out the relevant pages for the authorities

One of the things I always marvel at is that the 2 speed rear end doesn't mean faster end, it means an even lower granny. No idea what they were thinking, even as a Kansas farmer and muddy wheatfields, less than granny? Really? But its the way it is. Pretty cool feature nonetheless.

Thanks for the advice, I thought I had explained my vin tag was damaged that is the confusion over just what it is (1.5 or 2).

All I can make out is: 210K-H 1191 everything else is scratched off...

I will shoot more photos of the axel set up, it appears quite beefy and will identify it tomorrow with some of the info that has been provided!

But until now here is the pic of my vin tag, In Washington I have to get a state patrol inspection because it was sold with a bill of sale. To fill out the paperwork I need to be reasonably sure what it is that I have. that's why I'm asking so many Noob questions. Thanks for everyones help.

Ok, I think I have it figured out. From what I can tell, it appears that the serial number might actually be 21 QK-H 1191. It's hard to see, but I could just make out the hint of a "tail" on the "O", which may make it a "Q" instead. Being a "Q" also makes it work out with the listed model codes, with a "QK" being a 4400 1.5 ton 161" wheelbase. The rest works out like this; 21 is the assembly plant, Janesville Wisconsin, H is the month built, June, and the rest is the sequential number.
