I got a radio and CD player installed today I'm going to tell you they are no room at all for speakers. I'm going to the rodrun on September 14th at Pigeon Forge Tennessee which I have a friend making a custom system that he's going to be installing in the bed of the truck. id like to see some other peoples custom systems installed in your 60-66 Chevy truck.I don't listen to rap music so he is setting mine up for rock music. I don't know a lot about radio systems. Subs, tweeters, amps, 12 inch speakers, 10 speakers. I'll take lots of photos when he gets mine built and installed. lets see some of your custom audio system

FYI: Not a lot of big wheel rubber band tired thumpin stereo folks here on The Stovebolt website. We tend to be "Stock", "Resto Rod" and "Old School Hot Rod" folks.

I'd recommend some other websites that cater to the big wheel rubber band tired thumpin stereo folks but I have seen your posts already over at those sites.

No pics but I put two Planet Audio tweeter/mids in the dash where the OE speaker lived, and two Planet 6x9s under the seat in boxes-can't see any of it and sounds good-no bumpin nor thumpin though.

One of the options I'm considering for my truck, but I'm not sure I am going to do it. I'm currently leaning away from doing it.

Relocate the fuel tank under the bed. Use the existing tank behind the seat as a speaker box. It could be opened, sound insulated, and modified quite a bit without interfering with anything else in the truck. It would be easy to put back to stock if you want to go back by just replacing the tank.

Just a thought.

A pick up truck or even a car is the worst acoustic space imaginable. Traffic noise, engine noise, wind noise, road noise, vibration and absorption. People spend ungodly amounts of money for amps, woofers, sub woofers, preamps, boxes and etc. to put in a truck with a cab as big as a clothes hamper. The speakers are never more than 24" form your ears. The CD's and other electronic sound media are almost perfect. They need no enhancement, you can never appreciate the quality in a truck driving down the road. I have never understood why everyone can not listen to a radio or CD or whatever with just the built in amps and speakers and be satisfied. Is everyone a sound engineer who demands recording studio sound? The answer is FAD, BRAGGING RIGHTS and, they think, more CHICKS. The dumbest way to spend money in the world. On another note: A radio played while enjoying the ride in your truck, the scenery, the outdoors, when camping or fishing is an insult to nature. We play radios when working or studying or camping because we are too nervous and are afraid of silence because we may have to think. Kids have been stimulated too much when small. Turn off the radio, open the windows and enjoy life's sounds. That's music to my ears. I have to laugh at that program Unique Whips. The guy thinks he is a custom car fabricator. He does the same thing as Acme Auto Sound, the stereo installer down the street from me.

what John and Bart said, your "custom audio system" belongs in the house where you can kick back, close your eyes, and immerse yourself in whatever noise suits ya, when you're driving [or in public shared spaces] pay attention to what's going on around you, blaring a stereo in your ride is as dangerous as texting while driving .... and why is a 'custom audio system' thread in a series specific forum anyway? should be elsewhere, like maybe the greasy spoon

Less is more, for the accoustic reasons already stated above.

I have a 1989 NOS Chevy Beretta stereo mounted inside a 1976 Blazer console and some Sony SS-B1000 performance bookshelf speakers under the seats. Why? I already had these components, and they all work.

It's good enough and it's all hidden, no seeum, no stealum. And why would anybody want to steal a 1989 Beretta stereo anyway?

I had a CD player with 2 door speakers and 2 subs under the seat. Couldn't really hear em and the bass made think my engine was missing so I gave em away to a buddy. I'd rather chat or listen to the blower whine.

I have all the measurements for the fuel cell that drop right in between the frame rails. then Its a matter of using metal straps to strap it in. I even had the link from Sunmit racing for which fuel cell to get. I pick the cheapest one I could find that's plastic and has the foam inside of it to keep it safe. once I get my gas tank relocated from inside the cab and get seats with Built in seatbelts and the console that flips up into a seat I'm going to put me speaker box behind the seat with a amp. I don't know much about speakers or the lingo amps subs and all that but I want my radio to have good sound quality and be loud enough that I can hear it even with a big v8 and loud mufflers

Sounds like you know exactly what you want... as the folks at Nike say.... Just Do It!

I have seen over-the-top A/V systems, that became the show-piece, in lieu of the truck, the system was installed in. In that case, the truck should be at an audiofile show, to show of the system, instead of a truck at a truck show, that has a sound system.

I am putting two small speakers in place of the original under the dash.
I also am blocking off the left and right vents and will put a couple of speakers there.
I am keeping the original AM radio but will mount another stereo elsewhere in the cab.
I figure this won't make loud thumping sounds but will provide me with some good tunes to listen to.
