Why did they add more as the years went on?

Tom | | | | | Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 5,337 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 5,337 | Chev used 3 dowels starting in 1940 and continued using 3 up to 1962(1963 for 261). After that they went to one and in a lot of cases none.
The 3 dowels and bolt holes are unevenly spaced so the flywheel will only go on in one position.
If you have a flywheel with only 2 holes for dowels it will most likely not fit.
