The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Making a Stovebolt Bed 54 Bed Restoration

Since I got my speedometer working and I'm waiting on some other parts to arrive, I decided to pull the bed and start evaluating the frame and how much sanding, grinding and restoration will be required.

Pulling the existing bed was actually a lot of fun. I used a SawzAll on most of the bolts and drilled the tops out of the others. A couple of hours later me and my two boys just lifted the wood bed out with the three cross-members attached.

Tomorrow I'll power wash all the dirt off and start evaluating the rust, which is more than I thought on the side panels in particular.

Check out what I did with the wood from my old truck bed. I hung it on the wall over my bench. Now I need to find an old Chevy sign and put over it. Might be a good reason to salvage these wood beds - a lot of people in my area love the old aged wood for decoration.
