Gave up the idea of an automatic with a PTO.
New plan is to install a TH700-R4. The hydraulic lift will be run electrically and the winch will be electric.

Does anyone have experience mating this transmission to a 235?

Question is, will it bolt up to the '54 and after mounting plate for Hydro-matics? And is there a Hydro-Matic flywheel with a 6 volt ring gear (need to keep stomp starter) that will work?

Hy Jim Sears, the TH700-R4 for a V8 has the same bolt pattern as a lot of other V8 transmissions, Powerglide (aluminum case) 350, and 400 as well. Unfortunately none of these transmissions will bolt up to the 216/235/261 series of engines without an adapter (not the Hydramatic adapter). There is an adapter kit available from Buffalo Enterprises I believe, and possibly others. The kit includes an adapter and a special flywheel, unfortunately you must use a key activated starter, hope that helps.

Thanks 3B I will check it out.
Found a couple of "rat rods" with inline 6's and 700 trans, but no details on how they did it.

There probably using a 230,250 or 292 L6 from Chevy that will bolt up directly to any GM trans. for a adapter try this link from Langdon's

216 / 235 trans. adapter
