on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Aug 2012 Posts: 177 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Aug 2012 Posts: 177 | I am looking to replace the knee action shock with gas shocks, and I wanted to make sure I have all my ducks in a row.
This is on a '48 1 ton.
The replacement mounting bracket has four holes while the knee action has 2, do any of the holes line up? If not, what is the best method to make sure the top mounting bracket is in the right location?
What is the method for removing the the original knee action shock? | | | | | Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 5,337 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 5,337 | The top mounting bracket will only use three of the four holes and none will line up with the old shock mounting holes. If you attach the lower mounts and tighten them the top will almost fall into place. It would be nice if you had a 1950-54 truck next to you to see them mounted. I could take some pictures of some installed if you would like.

Once I tighten the lower mounts, that will give me the angle that I need to achieve. Is the upper bracket just centered on the frame at that angle? Is the spring under any type of compression at this stage, assuming the axle is not bearing any weight?

I will go with that and hope for the best. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 5,337 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 5,337 | The shock bushings are flexible enough that you will be fine.
