For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Jun 2013 Posts: 52 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jun 2013 Posts: 52 | Does anyone have a good source for ordering original paint colors in spray can form? The ID plate on my '60 Burb shows paint as RP0703A, which I've identified as Neptune Green as the original paint color. The second color is a white, but haven't identified it yet. The existing paint is original and I'd like to touch it up and am thinking if I can order both colors in spray can form it would make the job easier. I'd appreciate any information you can give me. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 Cruising in the Passing Lane | | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 | there isn't really any such, you would need to identify the actual [Dupont] paint color code like from here, then you would have to cross that to a modern paint code, then you could have a local paint supplier fill a spray bomb, a perfect match being a long shot - or you could take a gamble that what this place would supply would match your particular 50 year old paint - or you could take a sample to a good paint supplier for computer matching Bill | | | | | Joined: Jun 2013 Posts: 52 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jun 2013 Posts: 52 | I really appreciate the info, Bill. I'm now thinking maybe the best way will be to remove the painted license plate bracket and follow your suggestion of finding a local Phoenix source to match and make me a few cans or a case Thanks greatly for your help.

You would be surprised at how much a color will fade without being noticeable until you compare it a fresh sample. You might also want to check with your local Napa, as not all locations put it in spray cans (my local Napa does not).

I'm going to give an area a good treatment with rubbing compound and then wax and see what I've got. The back license holder is about the only part I think I can remove to take into NAPA or another paint company as a sample. I think the entire Burb must have originally painted all Neptune Green, then the original owner had the top painted white. The white is in pretty bad shape and I'll just have to see how much touch up I'll have to do to give it a good "preservation" look that I'm looking for, or just go ahead and have the whole Burb painted...which is probably going to lead me into expenses I'm not sure I want. I also like the pics I've seen with the white coming down below the windows. Gives it a better look I think. http://s1279.photobucket.com/albums...zps3f4b1cee.jpg&evt=user_media_share | | |
