I'm trying to finish a 1950 Chevy 5 window cab pickup my friend and neighbor started on. He passed away in January and had bought some parts I'm not quite sure what to do with.

He bought kick panel covers to go inside over the kick panels. The passenger side cover is pretty straight forward, but the drivers side has the vent in the side of the kick panel with the lever and louvers on the inside.

Has anyone ever used these kick panel covers (cardboard) and if so, did you have to make cut outs in the cardboard for the lever and for the vent holes to match so air could flow in?

No kick panel covers on these trucks, that's a custom street
rodder item. The only panel boards on these trucks were the
half panels below the door windows, and the headliner.

That's what I was thinking, but the owner of the truck wants them, so was hoping some one may have already performed this trick.

That cardboard is tough to cut and crumbles when you try to cut sharp turns. With the intricate cuts that you would have to make around the lever and louvers, I don't think if would look good even if you found a way to make perfect cuts. I believe these panels would be a better option on a 51 or newer truck, as they don't have the side cowl vent. Or you could make a cool louvered metal cover to put over the cardboard.

Think I'm gonna talk him out of this trick. Looks fine to me without them. Thanks

If he insists on them, you could always cover then with a vinyl,
which I've done in the past on cars that I re-upholstered the
door panels on. That way you don't have to be so particular
about what the panel board looks like after you cut it.

Roy,I made mine from 1/4" Ply,to transfer the pattern for the vents I used a piece of stiff paper cut to the same shape and used charcoal to 'brass rub' the pattern/vents onto the paper then transferred it to the ply.
Plans are to cover it in leather when funds allow.
Drivers kick panel.
