Hi All, I made a post last night asking for assistance in rebuilding my 1948 1 ton Dually brake system but the post has disappeared. It had 2 views last night before I logged off. Any idea what might of happened to it? I don't have any messages or anything that I can find that something was wrong with it.

Thanks,
josé

sometimes things just happen ohwell, try again .... and if you're going to copy/paste things here you need to change the drop window below to "Using HTML and UBBCode" otherwise they don't display wink

It was empty, no words in it; so I deleted it, looks like Bill figured out why, sorry about that.
Please try your new post again and make sure it is visible as noted above.

Thanks guys, I reposted. Seems that I looked at the post last night after submitting it and it was there. I hope the repost is there, I chose the option that Bill indicated and previewed it. Looked like it was all there.. Thanks, josé

Yep, looks like he has it figured out, well except for his post above.
I tried to edit it to show with no luck, seems Tim's Quote of it works though..

Grigg, to 'fix' those posts, use a Quick Quote and change the drop down in the new post

Hi Grigg, I am not sure what the problem is, I am typing directly in the quick reply box but maybe I have to always change the menu item to "using HTML and UBBCode". I did not know that I am going to have to do that all the time evidently..

Jose, maybe it's the browser version or operating system you're using .... typing directly into here should work fine with the default setting

Sorry you are having this issue, Jose -- We're aware of it now and will try to get it fixed. In the meantime, try to avoid *any* cutting and pasting -- the new UBB software upload/upgrade didn't seem to like that much.

Again, I apologize for the inconvenience and we'll try to get it sorted out as soon as we can.

Regards,
John

Hey guys -

The forum software doesn't like special characters ... such as Spanish language characters and smart quotation marks in MS Word.

I tried copying Jose's name and pasting into a new post. Same result - - blank.

I didn't try it using ASCII combinations of the Alt key plus numbers or using the special language keyboard in Windows.

> Jose: How did you enter your name with special characters in your profile? The special characters work OK in your profile name in your post. Try writing your post again but without the special "e" character in Jose. I betcha that the post will be visable.

> Tim and Bill: How did you post Jose's quote? I tried it and it came up blank.

Too bad that the new software has a problem with special characters. A lot of valuable information in old posts has been hidden from view of users who do not know about the magic "Quick Quote" button.

If my post disappears when I click "Submit", I sometimes replace one letter at a time until I find the problem. OUCH.

As Bill pointed out, I cannot edit my own "using HTML and UBBCode" post, except by using Quick Quote.

My empty post above the post that worked was "using UBBcode"

This post works with "using HTML and UBBCode"

Hmmmm

The special characters are visable in my previous post, but I couldn't edit the post after I submitted it to state that it worked. The edit window was blank. I see what you mean about not being able to edit the post in the HTML and UBBCode setting.

What are other reasons for using the HTML or HTML and UBBCode option? I have always used UBBCode only. I'm a klutz, so I enjoy being able to edit my posts, which I guess is only available using UBBCode.

Thanks for the lesson,

- Lonnie

very good, one aspect of this malady the software has is solved, if Jose doesn't use the di-acute on his name his posts will work with the default setting

Lonnie, when you 'quick-quote' a blank post you need to change the drop down in order for it to show in your post as well

Yes, to all of Bill's suggestions.

After you do a quick quote, change to HTML and UBB. Then cut from the quick-quote-box in the edit window/box and put that info into the body of the edit window/box- then delete the "quick-quote box" inside the edit window/box.

Clear as mud?

Hi guys, I am sorry the special characters are messing things up, I did not know they would be a problem. I use the ascii character set for the "e" which is ALT-0233. I will stop using it in my posts.

Sincerely,
jose

no need to apologize, it's the forum software that's screwy, not you, we've always blamed the UBB people and they haven't come up with a fix yet grin
