I can't get the fuel leak to stop om my Rochester. I was going to order Tom Langdon's progressive Weber carb.I dont know whether to get a single or dual set-up. I have a stock cam and .040 pistons. This is a daily driver here in Arizona. What do you guys think?

Thanks Sharon

Langdon sells them in a set of two. I don't think that one would be big enough to supply the required amount of fuel to your engine. They were designed for smaller 4cyl engines, thats why two are used.

Tom Langdon sells more than one "Weber" carburetor.

The Carter-Weber carburetors that he sells as a pair seems to nicely match a 235 engine.

It would be interesting to hear from someone who has found that a single Carter-Weber carburetor from a 1600cc engine works fine on a 235 engine (3850 cc) - as posted by Tommy, above.

I found that the dual Carter-Weber set-up was too little for my 270 ci 261 engine.

Single Weber Progressive carbs used to be the big thing w/ACVW engines (4 cyl air cooled boxer engines) but have fell out of favor due to their tuneability issues, i.e. always needing adjustment and hardley ever getting setup right.

The "best" carb solution for them (1600cc & up) is to go w/dual carbs. Depending upon the size and performance desired, dual Webber 40, 44 or 48 IDF's (excellent for street), Dual Webber 44 or 48 IDA's (excellent for strip) & dual 36 or 40 Dellorto's (excellent for street) are preferred. Each of these carbs are 2bbl so basically each cylinder has it's own tuneable bbl.

Other options are dual 1-bbl's which include dual Webber ICT's or Dual Kadrons.

There are many vendors to purchase these carbs new and/or rebuilt and if I were to go the dual or triple route w/any of the above I'd choose the dual Webber IDF's. They all can be rejetted and even have the venturies resized to fit an engine.

I know what I'd put on my 72 ACVW (Karmann Ghia)& how to rejet it but at this point I have no experience w/adapting any of these to a stovebolt. Course who knows on down the line grin

To the OP. as been posted, the carb kit you refer to comes in dual carb pkg's and if you go that route you'll also need to change your intake manifold to an aftermarket type that accepts 2 carbs. So there will be more involved than just a carb change.
The info I posted above is more rambling than being helpful to your question so disregard it and listen to those who have BTDT grin

Good luck
Dave

Tim, do you know how those dual Webers were jetted?
Did you do any rejetting?
I was considering trying a dual Weber setup on a 302 GMC. but maybe not?

I am going to try to get Tom on the phone and order his dual set-up. Now start looking for a new intake, maybe he will have some ideas.
Thanks Sharon

Sharon,

I liked the Fenton intake for dual carburetors because it bolts up easily with the Fenton headers - no grinding.

Get Langdon's carburetor linkage. If you need the throttle-rod (from the bell-crank to Langdon's linkage) ask here for the link/part-number for a universal rod.

ironhead,

I did not try rejetting. Yes, I'd say that pair of carbs is too small for your 302. Maybe two 228 carbs? Or, the single two-barrel AA-1 Holley that was used on 302s (variable jets are available)?

Just a last thought make sure you heat the new intake. Tom recommends going with water instead of exhaust for heat, so whatever you decided make sure it is heated. I purchased Tom's set up. The Carter/Weber progressive carbs. I have it installed but not yet fired up.

I have the Fenton intake dual single bbl. with the 1 x 2 carb adapters on my 235. I just ground off the 2 mounting ears that was not used to mount to the Fenton intake. One thing I had to do was make a custom bracket so I could hang my bypass oil filter, not sure how yours is now or if you even have one, I just did not want mine on the fender well or fire wall.

The carbs, linkage, adapters and water heater are in the mail for Tom. Talked to Patrick and he will have the intake in a few days. Tom talked me into heating the intake using an adapter between the thermostat housing and the block. Will let you all know it turns out. I will take pics if I can figure out how to post.
