on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Sep 2011 Posts: 255 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2011 Posts: 255 | hey guys/gals: I'm putting the crank vent tube back on my motor and I believe that the little bracket on the down tube gets bolted on with one of the oil pan bolts. Unfortunately the oil pan has a lip all the way around that prevents the bracket from sitting flat on the pan. Is there supposed to be a notch or something cut in the lip that allows the vent bracket to sit flat and keep the bolt flush on the pan?

I get so deep into this thing that I forget the obvious. The truck is a 1950, but the motor is a 235 out of a 1959 (I believe). | | | | | Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 5,337 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 5,337 | There was a spacer and a longer bolt used on the ones that bolted to a pan bolt. By 59 they bolted to the side of the block, but if you are using the 50 tube you should still be able to use one of the pan bolt holes.

Does anyone know where to get a replacement, or have a good picture so I can try and fabricate a new one? Was the spacer just a thick washer? | | | | | Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 5,337 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 5,337 | I will get dimensions for the spacer and post later.

There is a baffle below the opening for the road draft tube. It is a formed sheet metal piece fastened to the inside of the block by the screw that is about an inch forward of the road draft tube. If the baffle is in place you cannot see into the crankcase with the tube removed. The screw goes through the block into the baffle. If the baffle is missing, the screw will spin freely or fall out. You may have oil leaks around the screw hole. > RDT baffle and screw (Denny Graham)> Baffle screw (Denny Graham)> part number 3702766FYI - The baffle is missing in my '54 engine. However, I don't think that excessive oil is splashed up into the road draft tube and the free spinning screw seems to seal the hole well enough that minimal oil leaks from it. My rdt had been removed by a prevous owner and the baffle probably fell into the oil pan. Stovebolters told me about the baffle when I was trying to put a road draft tube into the block. > Part of Stovebolt threadOFF TOPIC - have you had a chance to check the fit of the fuel filter gasket that I sent to you? - Lonnie
- Lonnie My '54 3104Photos that I have shared on Stovebolt via PhotoBucket are no longer available. Please contact me if you want a photo from an old post. lonniecook [at] aol [dot] com. LonnieC I appreciate the link for the rdt/bracket if I can not fabricate something I will be going that route. The screw and baffle were reinstalled when the motor was rebuilt. I apologize it has taken me so long to compare the various fuel filter gaskets. I checked them today, Here are the picture of the Smaller gasket I had made, and the Bigger one that you sent. I prefer the smaller, which is the inside circle on the template of the one you sent. Here are the thumb screw gaskets installed Wider bowl gasket and 1/8 thumscrew gasket. Smaller float bowl gasket, 1/16 thumbscrew gasket. I prefer the 1/16 thumbscrew gasket. Thanks again for all of the effort you put into the templates, they will be useful for me, and anyone else with the filter in the future! I looked in the parts book but I could not find a listing for it.
