They are available for newer 235's and for 216's, but not the old 235. My question is what do I do? Will the gasket for a 216 fit? Will the gasket for a newer 235 fit? Thanks. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,270 Bubba - Curmudgeon | | Bubba - Curmudgeon Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,270 | Will the gasket for a 216 fit? Will the gasket for a newer 235 fit? Thanks. The 216 gasket will fit. The newer 235 gasket will have different-sized intake holes. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2012 Posts: 201 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Dec 2012 Posts: 201 | Thanks. I wish the catalogs would note that. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,270 Bubba - Curmudgeon | | Bubba - Curmudgeon Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,270 | Ed, In what catalog were you looking? Rockauto.com's catalog takes some getting used to to, but they list parts by make, mode, year, engine. They separately show the same manifold gasket set for the 1946 Chevrolet 21 and 235 engine. 1946 Chevrolet Truck - by engine After getting used to Rockauto.com's catalog, they are far easier to use that NAPA's catalog, and far more comprehensive and extensive than many other catalogs. Usually, I find a part number/nbrand from Rockauto ad then check that part/price at other vendors. Rockauto ends up being less expensive and much quicker than man other vendors. I looked in The Filling Station and Chevs of the 40's catalogs as well as a local parts store. They all had the same listings for 216 going way back and 235 starting with ''50. That does make it a bit frustrating when trying to look something up. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 5,337 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 5,337 | I have been able to get the gasket set at my local parts store. This is the number for the 216 set. Fel-Pro #MS8590 B-1

I meant to indicate that I easily get correct part numbers by year and engine from Rockauto.com - this tells me what fits on what (from other vendors).
Rockauto.com is only online. They often drop-ship from a manufacturer's factory/warehouse. If I need something quickly, I get the part number from Rockauto.com and buy it from a local vendor (NAPA is my most expensive local vendor on just about all parts - $11.07 for this part).
Rockauto shows the same Fel-Pro part number as Dave showed: FEL-PRO Part # MS8590B1 ($8.07)
They also show: VICTOR REINZ Part # MS12185X ($7.66)
I probably would have bought this part from NAPA, if they had it in stock (I'd also check Advance Auto, AutoZone, and Carquest)

It took about 15-20 minutes for me to change the gaskets and it made a BIG difference in how well the engine starts and runs. Thanks again for the advice. | | |
