Right above your question when you are reading it is a header which starts with Forum list, then My Stuff, click on My Stuff, a list will open up, down the list will be Posts, click on that and you will find your old posts. Just click on the appropriate post and it will open up the post and you can view it just like you did before, hope that helps. | | | | Joined: Jan 2011 Posts: 159 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jan 2011 Posts: 159 | | | | | Joined: Jun 2011 Posts: 5,096 Crusing in the Passing Lane | Crusing in the Passing Lane Joined: Jun 2011 Posts: 5,096 | Well, GM FF 14 bolt rears are cheap($150. here) and plentiful, 3.73, 4.11, ratios.

I would really like to hear myself think or listen to the radio going more then 55 mph sown the Highway | | | | Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 9,671 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 9,671 | The 4:10 gear is only going to give you another 5mph, so at 55 or anything more than that your still aren't going to hear much on the radio unless you got it cranked way up.

Patrick has a 3.53 kit.
In all 3 of my 1/2 tons and 1 1 ton this was the first thing I changed out.
If you are planning an engine, transmission and/or tire change plan ahead other wise the juice will not be worth the squeezing. | | | | Joined: May 2006 Posts: 8,351 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: May 2006 Posts: 8,351 | The gear kit from Patrick's will only work in 1/2 tons. With the 3/4 and 1 ton stock rear, the 4.10 from the '68-'72 3/4 is the highest gear you'll find. Otherwise, a complete rear swap is in order for anything higher. A good source for a 3.55 gear would be to check under Dodge or Ford vans. That gear in a Dana 60 housing is very common, and the overall width is just right for an AD truck. Be aware, though, that many of these are semi float, rather than full float like the originals.

Dave, the Patrick kit is for a 1/2 ton won't fit the HO52/72 axle. OOp, Bill beat me to it on all fronts, just what I would have posted.
The 4.10 gear is a nice gear for the "stock" 3600. You don't want to be driving that truck 70mph with the stock suspension and brakes, it's not a modern truck with modern suspension. I cruise 55mph much of the time and she's running turning right around 2800rpm. Right around the sweet spot. She will run 60-65 with no problem but then you're getting over 3000rpm and you don't want to run them there for to long. The stock 216 babbett pounder was fine there, when it was new that is, but most are a little to tired to push that hard.
