I did some searching in this forum but couldn't come up with an answer.

How do 225/70/19.5 tires compare to 8R x 19.5 for working as duals on a '59 3800? The rims are original and have old 8Rs currently. I see more 225/70/19.5s for sale and would use those if the dual tires wouldn't rub. Any thoughts?

I don't have facts at hand but I believe that you will find that your wheels are too narrow for the metric tires. I found that info somewhere once but I don't remember where it got it.

I am not too sure if they will rub or not but the width on a 225 is about 8.7" wide and 32.6" tall where an 8r is slightly less than 8" wide and 33.9" tall. But those would vary slightly if your rim is narrower than the recommended width.

The info you're looking for is in this tech tip
http://www.stovebolt.com/techtips/wheels/

And in it is this link for the Accuride catalog.
http://www.accuridecorp.com/files/2012/10/Accuride-Wheels-Product-Catalog-Summer-2011.pdf
Page 48 gives recommended rim widths for different tire sizes.

225/70/19.5 work on 6 or 6.75" rims. As do 8x19.5 tires (and 5.25" as well).

I've not yet seen a 5.25" wide 19.5" wheel so I'd guess you have 6" wheels and could use either tire size you choose. Still worth checking your original rim width.
