No. The engine serial number and body serial numbers would be different. The body number would be something like this; H3A001001. To break down the example I give, H would be a 3100 truck, 3 is the model year, 1953, A would be the assembly plant, Atlanta in the example, then the last 5 are the sequential serial number, usually starting with 001001 at each plant.
It should be noted, before around 1955, many states used the engine number as the serial number on the title, rather than the body number. Since you mention that the body number plate is missing, it seems the DMV simply titled it using the engine number that was in the truck at the time, or possibly it got retitled after the engine swap to keep it all legal.
