My fuel and temp gauges don't work. The fuel gauge registers or at least the needle moves, I have a new sending unit, there is a good ground, continuity between the sending unit and gauge and everything is wired according to the shop manual wiring diagram. The only thing that is different from the manual is the spades on my ignition switch don't match the drawing of the ignition switch in the book, but I have looked at other "original" ignition switches from 57s and they were the same as mine. The same basic problem exists with the temp gauge...new unit and continuity. This problem was there prior to installing the new wiring harness. Everything else works fine. I'm at a loss. I just rebuilt the engine and don't want to drive it too much without the temp gauge. Any advice is much appreciated. | | |
#95460 04/25/2006 12:05 PM | Joined: Feb 2006 Posts: 395 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Feb 2006 Posts: 395 | OK lets check them,,,first make sure eng has ground to cab and cab to frame...make sure you have power to dash gauges...on the temp gauge,,with ing on gauge hooked up read gauge,unhook eng sender do not let it ground read gauge,ground sender wire read gauge,,gauge should have moved full sweep with wire unhooked then wire grounded,,if not wire to eng unit bad ((unhook wire at gauge use jumper wire do same test with jumper))or temp dash unit bad or no power to dash unit...do same check on fuel gauge...doc | | |

I do know the ground on the fuel sending unit is good and I assume (I know that's trouble) the ground to the gauge panel is good also because the lights work, but I will verify.
