I have a 1960 Chevy C-60 that needs a complete brake overhaul. Master cylinder, steel lines, rubber lines and slave cylinders.

http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/...5E-8217-0000041187487249_zpsb6890717.jpg

I can not find the parts I need for this truck. I have yet to tear it down just starting to look for parts so I know that I can get them before I tear it down. Where can I get a master cylinder and the slave cylinders? Ive called several local parts stores and they dont have anything bigger than 1 ton parts for chevys, one said they have a book, but Ive delt with the person I was talking to on the phone and they dont really know much.

Thanks, Matt

Check with your local NAPA. Don't call them, go see them and talk to a real parts person.

The MC may be the hard to find item, but it can be rebuilt and sleeved if it's pitted...same for the wheel cylinders,

I got new WC for my 1957 Fire Truck from NAPA, they were in stock at the warehouse and I got them the next day.

Hy Mattman2010, 1960 is the first year of standard torsion bar suspension, the following part numbers are predicated on your truck having that suspension.
standard master cylinder, 1 1/8" bore Napa p/n NMC P34404 $44.99+$17.00 core
RockAuto, Raybestos p/n MC34404 $46.99
heavy duty master cylinder 1 1/4" bore Napa p/n NMC P34956 $114.00+$17.00 core
RockAuto, Raybestos p/n MC19089 $78.79
wheel cylinder front left Napa p/n UP19090 $27.49
RockAuto, Raybestos p/n WC19090 $19.06
wheel cylinder front right Napa p/n UP19091 $27.49
RockAuto, Raybestos p/n WC19091 $18.03
brake hose, front RockAuto, Raybestos p/n BH33675 $17.70
wheel cylinder rear, Napa p/n UP18196 $35.49
RockAuto, Raybestos p/n WC18196 $3.49 (they only have one left)
front wheel cylinders one required for each side of the truck, rear wheel cylinders two of each for each side of the truck, front brake hoses two required. I could not find a part number for the rear brake hose, but after supper I'll do some more looking, hope that helps.

It is, just needs some fixing and it should be good to go for a while.

I was talking to my dad about the front wheel cylinders and he thinks that they where only a single piston instead of the double piston like what 3B gave me a part number to. I have never torn this truck apart let alone drove it so I am not sure if my dad is correct or not and I know its been years sense he has messed with it. Im hoping to get the truck running tho so I can drive it and use the dump bed. Seems like I could use it at times. And old iron is just cool! Would be cool if this truck was a little lower so I could pull a gooseneck with it, but with the dump bed I am not sure how well that would work.

My 48 1/2 ton had double pistons. I doubt seriously that 60 brakes were singles.

I doubt it as well, but I have never taken it apart. The last time my dad opened it up was probably 10 to 15 years ago. We had a brake lock up about 3 years ago, but I think my uncle messed with that. Im just trying to keep the cool farming stuff that we still have in good condition because my uncle seems to be tearing it all up and only fixes it good enough to get his 20 acers of farm land farmed and then doesn't really fix any of the major stuff. After I get my 84 Chevy Crew cab cummins conversion done I am going to mess with this truck and a 1961 (I think) Farmall 560 and get them running good and then I may pull the A john deere out of the yard and get that thing up and running again.

Hy Mattman2010, I made some corrections on my original post. I rechecked the front wheel cylinders they list a single double ended cylinder for each front wheel. I did find a listing for the rear brake hose in another catalog
Napa p/n UP33676 $23.49, RockAuto, Raybestos p/n BH33676 $10.41, hope that helps.

Thanks for the update. Do you happen to know if there is a NAPA PN for the front brake lines? Then again rock auto seems to have everything I need and its cheaper. Not sure which route I plan on going. Not sure when I am going to mess with this thing just yet. I also want to replace all the steel lines on the frame as I am sure the truck needs it. Truck is 53 years old so I am sure it would be a good thing to do.

Hy Mattman2010, the Napa p/n for the front brake hose is UP33675 $17.99. Remember RockAuto only has one rear wheel cylinder left, hope that helps.

Rock auto has other brand rear wheel cylinders. They are like $10 for them, the $3 ones they only have 1 of them left because they are a part close out on that brand I guess.

You most likely won't be able to buy brake line specific for that truck, you can however buy line off the rack at a NAPA and using a couple pieces be able to replumb it, or you can make you own lines if so desired, but are a little tricky for a first timer.
The front wheel cylinders very well could be two half units I believe Chevy and GMC used the same format for building these trucks, the torsion bar was a 2 or 3 year item on both trucks and rides like a Cadallic, parts are a little hard to get particular the lower ball joints, but if maintained over the years that should not be a problem.

I plan on buying steel line and building my own lines. Ive done a couple of them before so it shouldnt be to hard for me to do.

3B,

Thanks for posting this. I just got into my first "Big Truck", a 1960 C60 Viking. Its in the shop and getting some brake work done. I have gotten some good use out of these part numbers you posted. I appreciate you putting up this information. It has been very helpful. Hopefully when the parts come in, they'll all be correct on the first try. I ordered and old GM Medium Duty truck parts catalog that covers the applicable year so hopefully I will have the reference on my own in the future. In the meantime, thanks for posting. Again, its been a big help.

Jonathon
