New speedi sleeve was scored. Seal was also new. But the timing gear cover bolts have to be somewhat loose so the timing gear hole centers itself on the speedi sleeve. Then tighten the cover bolts. I Hope you drilled and tapped the 2 botton bolt holes as per a Stovebolt Tech Tip. Make any sense? Good Luck, Jerry

Is that before you installed it, or after you installed it and ran the engine?
What is the brand and part number of the repair sleeve that you used? I used one yesterday on a 270 GMC engine. There was no need to be concerned about the groove in the balancer because the sleeve covered the surface from the back to the pulley (I'll post the brand and part number tomorrow). The sleeve came with the seal and it was the same size as a regular seal.

The man who made it recommended I start with a speedi sleeve right away. The cover was not removed so I thought it would still be centered and the old balancer was perfect when I removed It.The bottom bolts were tapped when the engine was rebuilt 3 years ago.
It appears to me that the sleeve is not hard enough. I don't know the brand. | | |
