Well some good news tonight I started the 350 for the first time. It went on the first try and ran with no bumps or backfires lots of oil pressure and must be almost right on the timing mark etc. "I'm still pulling the horseshoe parts out of my you know where". Anyway the next question is looks like the rad which was recored with new modern fins may be suspect as to keeping it cool enough. Any suggestions on which of the after market rad's are better or worse?

What makes you suspect the radiator? With a recore (even a poor one) it should be cool, unless its way too small for the engine.

Have you checked the thermostat? If it's not opening, that could cause an overheat.
