It depends upon the condition of the gasket. I have reused a valve cover gaskets many times. I have also never over-tightened the screws on the valve cover.

If yours was done that way it should come off in one piece. If it was pookied on both sides, probably not.

It is probably more psychological than anything else, but it seems to be working.
