For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Jun 2008 Posts: 56 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jun 2008 Posts: 56 | On my 3100 I noticed that there's a weatherstrip that goes around the interior door edge and then another weatherstrip (?) inside the cap that fits in a track around the door opening. The old inside weatherstrip looks like it has a tubular section that maybe fits up against the door when closed? Anyone familiar with this setup and does it come as a kit or two separate pieces. Don't even know the proper names for the weatherstripping. I would have never guessed windlace. Also, thank you for the links to the weatherstriping. I looked at your site. Is most of the items specifically 54 or do they backfit to most older trucks? Thanks again! Oh, I was wonder what the panel is inside where the armrest and window crank fit, and where can I get them? Both of mine have holes in them.

There was nothing they were holding in place, so I was thinking there's probably another weather strip that goes there. At the following link, is a picture of a door with a lower weather strip that's held in place by a metal strip. Can't tell if it's the regular door weatherstripping or something different. http://www.jimcartertruckparts.com/Articles/Advance-Design-Door-Weather-Seal.php , | | | | | Joined: Jan 2010 Posts: 4,263 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2010 Posts: 4,263 | It's the same door weather seal It wraps around the complete door Here's a better pic off the Internet ...link... | | | | | Joined: Jun 2008 Posts: 56 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jun 2008 Posts: 56 | Thanks Dads50. Now that the engine overhaul is done and back in he truck, I'm starting to work on both the interior and exterior. I'm glad I removed those strips. The bottom edge of the doors behind those strips was moderately rusty, but fixable. Also had to work on the corner drain pockets behind the seat. Seems like those pockets collect a lot of junk. Can't remember if I asked you before, but did you put a new bed kit in yours? If so, did you go with a simple kit or a fancy kit? | | | | | Joined: Jan 2010 Posts: 4,263 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2010 Posts: 4,263 | If so, did you go with a simple kit or a fancy kit? I used the pine kit from classic parts. The door weatherstrip can be a pain. What was the problems you encountered when installing the weather stripping? | | | | | Joined: Jan 2010 Posts: 4,263 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2010 Posts: 4,263 | I used alans tips http://www.alanhorvath.com/54chevy/doorubber.phpits alot easier with the door off, but I wouldnt remove the door just to install the weather strip. | | | | | Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 6,378 Ex Hall Monitor | | Ex Hall Monitor Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 6,378 | The bottom edge of the doors behind those strips was moderately rusty, but fixable. Also had to work on the corner drain pockets behind the seat. Seems like those pockets collect a lot of junk. That's why they almost universally rust. The drain holes get blocked & any water that gets in there can't drain out.
