I would prefer a 5 window Chev but I am open to others. I am not good at body work but I am a fair welder/fabricator and mechanic.
My first question is: I have seen the back window body pieces for sale on several web sites. [b]Is it possible/practical to convert a reg cab to a 5 window?

Welcome to the forum. My thought is that you can convert a reg cab to a 5 window cab, but why? If you are hung up on a 5 window cab, that's all you should be looking at (as I think the fabrication and trouble would not be worth the hassle and extra $$$) OR if you find an 'EXCEPTIONAL' reg cab, you might be able to find a 5 window cab only and go that route?
Anyway, let us know what you come up with. I think there are plenty of folks that can help you out from the SE part of the coutry.

John | | | | | Joined: Mar 2010 Posts: 10,270 Renaissance Man | | Renaissance Man Joined: Mar 2010 Posts: 10,270 | My first AD was a 5 window (I'm still working on it) and I was hung up on the "5 window thing" until I bought two more 3 window trucks (I can't seem to stop buying them). I gave the 5 window rebuild a rest to work on one of the 3 windows trucks in order to sell it to finance the restoration of the 5 window. Now I am driving the three window truck and have found that I actually like the looks of the 3 window better. I think its because the 3 window represents a workingman's truck and not someone who is spending extra cash to impress. So I am going to suggest that EVERYONE buy at least one of each!

You kinda' get what you pay for with most older vehicles. The barn finds and diamonds in the rough are few and far between. Like a fellow bolter told me today at his shop, the time you take hunting and digging for something like that has to be considered and factored into the cost as well.
