As I said before, none of the gauges in my 67 C10 work properly. They "try" to work, but just don't.

I want all of my gauges to work. I always watch gauges periodically when I'm driving anything.

I recently received a catalog in the mail which seems to have everything that I need to, hopefully fix my gauge situation.

The catalog is from "Truck Shop", but their web address is "truckandcarshop.com".

Has anyone ever had any dealings with these people? If so, what are the pros & cons?

I can buy a complete gauge cluster, with a Vacuum gauge, which includes printed circuit panel for about $535.00.

Knock off about $90.00 to delete the Vacuum gauge.

Not that I want to spend money, but this sounds like a good deal to me. My truck has a Tach, by the way, which is included in this.

And, not that I need it, it has the faceplate and some backing plates, and other stuff.

Opinions needed.

Davey

Custom gauges are nice but that,s a lot of money. Parts for the original are plentiful & reasonable. Take the wire off the sending unit at the gas tank. Ground it & turn the key on. The gauge should go to empty. With the wire off it should go way over on full. Do the same on the temp. gauge. It should read hot when grounded. The oil gauge works off a pressure tube from the oil gallery. With a little study & testing you should be able to make the stock gauges work.

They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing.

Thanks Wrenchbender. I'll try that. I sure don't wanna hafta spend all that money on gauges. It could be better spent on other areas of the truck.

Me and Homer found a bunch of useless wires and snatched them out. Wires going to places they shouldn't be going to.

I need a wiring schematic so I can know how to trace down wires so I know how to properly rewire some of this stuff.

There's a "hot wire" from the starter to a junction box on the firewall on the driver's side for God's sake. We took that loose and it won't start. I believe this should be wired to the switch.

Lots of wires have been run through the radio.

Just a mess.

Where can I find a wiring schematic diagram for a 67 Chevy C10?

And thanks again Wrenchbender. I'm ganna test your suggestions this weekend. Ran out of time tonight.

Thanks,
Davey

The truck Shop is cool ... and that's the right web address. I've purchased stuff from them -- no complaints.

Good luck with your work on the gauges you have, Davey -- way to go.

I really like truck shop too, Davey. I've purchased a lot of parts from them for our '54 over the past year. The service has always been good and I haven't had any back orders yet.

Davey, The factory shop manual for the 67 will have the wiring diagrams. When ever I get a new project I always find a factory manual for it. I may also have also have the wiring harnesses for a 69 GMC, I'm not saying they are the same. The wiring diagrams are also on the web, I've seen the address in quite a few posts, never book marked it for because I have the manual. I also have the crimp 0n spade connectors.

Thanks everybody. I bought a few gauges which I intend to install as soon as I can after I receive them.

I'll find the wiring schematic.

I probably should have been taking pictures of all of this stuff as we were taking it out.

Hindsight.

I ordered a a couple of manuals from truckandcarshop. com.

Wiring Diagram & Factory Assembly Manual.

Hopefully they will be of assistance.

It's a slow go.

Thanks for the advice. I sure wish this would go quicker, but lots of obstacles.

I'll let ya know when I've actually done something.

It's on the way.

I finally got 3 gauges. Made in some obscure little country overseas. They look good enough though.

I'm gonna try to put 'em in today.

I used to take cars apart when I was a teenager, but haven't done any kind of mechanicking in about 30 years, so it's a bit scary. Guess I'll be okay once I get started.

I got a Water Temp gauge, Oil Pressure, and Battery/Ammeter.

Beautiful day here weather-wise, so I figure I'll give it a try.

I know I still have wiring problems, so, I hope this ain't a fruitless effort.

I'm taking the freaking radio out of this truck. Everything seems to be wired through the radio.

Very strange.

if I remember correct you could have a printed curcit on the back of the inst cluster if so you could have a break in the circit that you can repair it sounds like if none of the gauges work it must be in the 12v power to the dash curcit so before you spend a boat load see if you can repair,,if you cannot do yourself send it I will repair if poss...doc

I finally got the gauge panel out. Most was easy enough.

Doggone Tach didn't wanna come out though. I couldn't trace the wires to the Tach, and got frustrated and snatched all the wires loose for the Tach.

Now the truck won't even attempt to crank. No power whatsoever.

So much for stupidity. I can at least now see indide the dash panel.

I'll fix it.

Homer came and looked at it yesterday. He suggested I go ahead and get the printed circuit panel and the wiring schematic and work from there.

Once I got the cluster out, we realized that part of the main wiring harness (several wires) under the dash had been cut and spliced back together. I don't know anything about the wiring in an automobile, but I guess it's time for me to learn. At least I have someone helping me that does know something. I don't want to burn the truck up.

So, the way it looks, it'll be about two more weeks before Homer and I can get together on a weekend and work on this.

The padded dash needs to be replaced, and I'm hoping to have the money to go ahead and order that when I get the other stuff so I can put it all back together at the same time.

The Tach wasn't fastened in. So, I'll probably do without a Tach for now, and just slide the old one back in the hole for now without connecting it.

I wanna do this right, and would really prefer to buy a new complete wiring harness and start all over agin while we're at it. Homer advises me against that, so I'm gonna listen to him.

I'll learn...

While I have the cluster out, I'll take some pictures and post them at the Sixties Chevy Trucks site on my page.

I simply want to have the truck "mechanically" sound. The appearance isn't a big issue to me.

Thanks,

Davey
