We just moved from Missouri to Tucson and drove the truck pulling 2 motorcycles. Everything turned out fine. I would like to put a sway bar on my truck but as you know the 3/4 ton is hard to find suspension parts. The catalogs dont list any and the search feature found Metal Man as being someone who might make them. Is he still doing this or are there other manufacturors of them.

Thanks Tony

1947-1955 front anti-sway bar.

Wait to see if anyone knows a reason why that might not work on a 3/4 ton truck.

If that works on a 3/4 ton truck, the stock/standard 1/2 ton panel-body sway (anti-sway) bar would also work.

I think I called about that one this morning and he told me it would only fit the 1/2 ton's.

I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work. The 3/4 ton frontend is basically identical to the 1/2 ton. The only real difference is that the 3/4 ton has larger spindles.

Whitedog,

I agree with you. Still, considering the cost of the kit (or, of a used assembly), it would be nice to hear from someone with a 3/4 ton Chevrolet truck who has done this.

Tony,

Keep waiting for an answer, The phone-help might not really know - he might have just been reading from a catalog.

I know people who have done this on a 3/4 GMC, but the set-up is different from a Chevrolet (and fabrication of clamps might have been necessary).

If it holds true for 3/4 tons as it does for 1/2 tons then every frame is drilled for a sway bar, because they did not know if the frame would be used under a Panel, Carryall, or a PU.
The Panel and Carryall came with a sway bar.

The 3/4 ton I-beam is a little wider than the 1/2 ton.
I have a stock bar and hardware from a Suburban (1/2 ton) and the u-bolts won't fit over the I-beam on my '52 3600.
They should go with a little massaging, however.

The axle may or may not be wider but are the springs set further apart? I may be misreading your post though.
With a stock sway bar you may have a problem adapting but with the sway bars sold now, where the links mount off the front two ends of the U bolts, I don't see a problem.

Yes, I was just commenting that a stock 1/2 ton sway bar isn't a direct bolt on to a 3/4 ton. The beam is wider where the u-bolts
that clamp the link ends mount to the axle. (not the front leaf spring u-bolts) The 3/4 ton beam is about 2" wide and the 1/2 ton about 3/8" or so smaller.

Thanks, Steve,

Tony,

You now have to decide if you want to gamble on it fitting. Classic Parts will take it back within 30 days - you'd be out the shipping both ways, if it does not work.

I ordered one today, I think I can make it fit. Did a lot of fab work on this old truck. Thanks everyone for commenting on my problem. I will let you know how it turns out.
Thanks Tony
