Refurbished the ignition switch and bracket.

Got all the glass, except windshield in the 48 3100. Put bed wood in, except one board. Working on door moulding.

pulled the engine, tranny from the 42 S/B and put it on the stand.
tomorrow...power wash the frame and start cleaning.

Had a good evening in the garage,I got the rear shock 'issue' dealt with,I just need to get a couple more grade 8 bolts and some washers and we're good to go,well that's once I get the drivers door hinges rebuilt and the door back on so I don't fall out on right hand corners.....

Finally, the brakes are working. The MC we got from TCI was leaking air at the piston. No fault of TCI,of course. Peddle is still a bit on the low side so we will change to a Corvette power brake MC with larger piston.

"And the party never ends," and that's the way we want it!

The hinges are receiving much needed 'professional care' right now,the pins are out and the arms are being bored through for the brass inserts as we chat!

I got the rear shocks all buttoned up last night and I now just need two small brackets to triangulate the lower mounts,I don't want a repeat performance!

Removed cab. One man wrecking crew. Yahoo! Might have been easy for some but I feel like I pitched nine innings and got the shutout. Removing pins on Parking brake cable was a ten foot hurdle but I didn't want to get out the grinder. I also learned that the base of your cab cart needs to clear the engine hoist. Doh!

Removed starter and took it to autozone. Truck isn't running but starter works.

Started cleaning engine. Need high pressure hose but not happening in the garage. Using windex spray bottle.

Reinstalled passenger side mirror bracket. Started fudging with the oil pressure switch.

Reinstalled my front fenders, aligned them to hood, grill surround & cab, tightened everything up. Amazingly everything lined up perfectly after so many years off the truck. Starting to look like a truck again!!

I got the interior primed and painted finally with the Rustoleum rattle can job. Now I can start thinking of wiring harness install, then all the dash parts! Looking forward to that.

Got my drivers door hinges rebuilt and back on the truck,the door now shuts with a satisfying clunk without slamming it too hard.

Took the truck for a test run with the new relocated shocks and it's still driving/handling very poorly!

I'm at my wits end with it,I just don't know what to do next,i've never driven anything that feels so utterly unsafe.....
I read of guys with trucks with a similar set-up to mine driving at 80+mph.....in mine? Not a chance!!!

Disassembled the oil line for the head on my 216

Hello friends,

So, today was excellent. Got my truck on the road. Took 4 voyages, all sucessful, with no leaks, problems. 216 is running amazing, new t5 is AWESOME!!! The copper oil line I installed is pumping oil to head, got my new thrush glass pack all clamped up with hangers, rock solid. Cleaned everything of dust, cleaned engine bay ( best as possible ). It's running, I'm so pleased! I got more thumbs up today in the slow lane, than when driving my 56!
It's my daily ride, soon, so I'm off to work with it in the AM for the first time.
I'm going to post some pics tomorrow. Too tired today.
I even put some carpeting in for now. Had a large piece of scrap after basement was finished. It made the truck look soo much better it's unreal! Oh well, I could blab all night I'm so happy. Talk soon all...

Straightened, repaired, plastic filler, sanded, primer, sanded, primer sanded both my running boards. Ready for finish paint. Also installed Repop running board brackets on passenger side. Test fitted running board and brackets do line up with running board mounts. Oh well, will have to adjust brackets with washers I guess. Did I mention that applying plastic filler and sanding the running boards is a royal PITA due to all the ribs. Ugh.

Where do I start Jim.....looks like the whole rear suspension needs some drastic surgery....
Long story short the rear geometry is all wrong,I should have left it the way Chevrolet intended.....

This weekend, I installed the (now restored) steering wheel. I put the tailgate back on and took the family for a drive. Then I installed the double-filament sockets in the parking lamps and wired them up - so far so good. Finally, I drilled fastener holes and countersinks for the offset washers in the oak bed boards; plus three coats of spar varnish on the tops of them.

While there are still many things to "refine", its nice that it's drivable

Two weeks after rotator cusp surgery I'm going nuts. Had the boy help me bring home the bed wood and one handed I sanded them down and started the poly urethane coatings. Five and a half months to go to full recovery - I don't think I'm gonna make it......

First John I would move this to the Driveline forum and try to find answers there. I'm pretty sure you'll find the help you need there.

The whole 4-link is so fundamentally wrong I just need to cut my losses and start again...especially where my family,friends,other road users and my own safety is concerned,it really is that un-nerving to drive.

The annoying thing is the knock on effect of changing it as I've routed the exhausts and positioned airbag mounts etc to work with the existing set-up,I might have to alter some things other than the 4-link.

The 'fabricator' and I use that term lightly, has a lot to answer for!

Maybe the 'bolt should have a 'Rant' sub-forum just for me!

John, not now....don't give up. If you do IT wins and I just know that is not going to happen. Hang tight. Remember, if it was easy everyone would be doing it.

...back on topic. I actually washed and waxed the pickup and the panel. They had a "coating" from sitting in the shop with all the "oil in the air" and I just had to clean them up. They deserved it after the way I treat them!!! Looks like two new vehicles in the shop.

Started eyeballing by bullet tail lights to see what needs to be done to make them work. Yeah, I decided to not have just the single, original tail light. Installed a junction block for the rear lights.

Didn't get much done today! Been raining CATS AND DOGS since Saturday,and my vacation ends TOMORROW! Had a to-do list a mile long,of stuff I wanted to do to "'Tater". Got about a "block" of stuff accomplished: Tuesday, (Camped Memorial Week-end,Vacation Time!)I raised the hoist,PROPPED it,and commenced finishing the rust-proofing of the frame rails and under-side of the bed. I pulled the 2, 13' and 2,8' OAK side-boards out of the old bus camper they've been stored in the last 10- months,and commenced applying a nice coat of "Thompson's Water-Seal". Made a "tent out of some old fence-posts and a tarp,to keep the wood dry? Got rained-out Wednesday.:( Thursday: I got up at 5:00,saw the Sun was shining,and RAN out of the house,to drive 20-miles to work on"'Tater". Got the METAL "headache"-rack primed,the uprights primed,and my OAK side-boards were lying under about 6" of rain-water! I pulled the tarp off of the wood,and let the boards air dry,before getting them installed! Had enough fun with the "headache" rack. No welder,so we drilled the holes in the origional stakes,to accomodate the larger bolts needed to secure the rack to the flatbed. We finally got that accomplished,then it only took about an hour to install the side-boards. I still need to trim the 13-footers,since they hang-over the box by about 6".and the two rear stakes need to be trimmed,but "Tater"'s lookin' BETTER!! Like Phil from "Duck Dynasty says:HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY!! I'll make a video of the progression tomorrow,so stay tuned...

Started sizing wire for the bullet lights. Started having thoughts of having things set up just in case I want to have turn signals installed eventually.

During the week, the last coat of spar varnish went on the new bed boards, the carb float level was confirmed, and the headlamp wiring harnesses were replaced.

This morning we started it and ran out of gas on the way to drop the boys off at school. Luckily the final gasp was right in front of a gas station so the push to the pump was short. Replacing the gas gage has moved up the priority list!

Wired up the bullet lights with 7' pigtails. Made a mounting gasket for both units. Had to repair one of the lights so a screw would hold.

Congrats on the spar varnish,Bdammers47! I just got my "headache" rack,and stakes primed,and installed,as well as the frame and under-side of my 13' bed rust-proofed. I installed my oak side-boards yesterday,and made a couple of video's of "Tater" with "His" new rack,and side boards. just click the "Photobucket" link,if interested. Thanks for looking!!

We always have something to do,between the three. He also has a 1951 6700 Chevy bus,that "we're" working on as well. That's the brown one in my picture library. My truck is two years older than I am. It RUNS GREAT!! Me...I WALK fairly fast. Take care! Have a great time with your installation!

Completed restoration of the running boards. Painted with black singe stage urethane (Ful-Thane) and undercoated with 3M Body Shutz. The bench seat is up next.

Started running wire up the frame.
