Rather than trying to find a new top or replace the carb, can I just JB Weld the brass fitting to the carb? It would seal the threads nicely but is contamination or lasting a problem? Give it plenty of time to cure. Put the epoxy on the threads of the brass piece you are screwing in, so that you don't push the epoxy back into the carb when you screw it in.
I don't know if teflon tape (the white tape you wrap on pipe threads) would seal against gas or not.....

Not only would that give you new correct size threads, but they will be far stronger than the original threads, which will eliminate the problems with the stripping out.
