I live west of Cleburne, TX. My place took a direct hit from the tornado that we had on the 15th. The building that my truck was parked in and everything else that was in the building was blown a few hundred yards away. I was amazed to find that aside from having the mirror knocked off and the bed ripped off my truck was undamaged. The trailer that I live in was thrown into a telephone pole and nearly cut in half. My neighbors watched in amazement as my good old truck started right up and yanked my trailer off of the pole and back upright. Everyone cheered my old truck and I joked that it was a truck, farm tractor, and a tornado shelter as well, since it's the only thing that survived. Chevy wasn't kidding when they said "like a rock". The wind was hitting it so hard that it blasted some paint off of the drivers side, and still, the truck didn't move an inch from where it was parked. I was so proud of that old truck that I couldn't help but smile, even on one of the worst days of my life. I'm staying with my parents until I can come up with another trailer. I figure I'll put it back in the same place. I mean what are the odds it'll get hit twice? Man, I love that old, green, indestructible s.o.b. !

Dirty_Gurty,

Sorry to hear about your situation.

But, it is nice to have an up-beat story that you can recount with a smile.

Good luck.

Now I know it is true that tornados are attracted to trailers.

Congrats on owning a fine truck, when you get back on your feet, buy something nice for it. Hope that 65 Chevelle came out ok too.

The Chevelle is my dad's. His house didn't get hit, thankfully. I've often joked that we were really tempting fate by having a trailer park way up on top of a bald hill. Thanks for the well wishes.
edit: I put a few pictures of the tornado damage in the link below.

I'm really sorry Dirty.....I'm glad that you and your truck made it thru. You really do have a great attitude towards this situation when most wouldn't! I like your truck by the way.

The old truck looks sweet without a bed. A friend of mine had a great idea the other day. He suggested a winch and gin poles. I think I might do it. It'd be fun to be able to drag and lift stuff with my tornado shelter.

"Whats the odds of getting struck twice"? Just ask the folks in Moore Oklahoma. By the way my daughter is in Cleburne today and tomorrow for training on her job. RES Energy Services.

Looks like the trailer was picked up and thrown sideways into the power pole creasing the top of the roof, then slammed down on its feet.

That's a great picture of you and the truck! I like the bed, too, but I'm glad it came off and didn't hurt the truck! Be sure to park your truck right in front of your new trailer to ward off tornados!

Best wishes,

Les

Hey great story Dirty, we were cleaning up storm damage yesterday at the inlaws and heard that two of their neighbours hide under a combine to ride out the storm. Just a mile away it toppled an empty slab silo onto a shed.Old mother nature can be unpredictable.

First time I saw this truck I said "That's the one!"
