My place took a direct hit from the tornado that we had on the 15th. The building that my truck was parked in and everything else that was in the building was blown a few hundred yards away. I was amazed to find that aside from having the mirror knocked off and the bed ripped off my truck was undamaged. The trailer that I live in was thrown into a telephone pole and nearly cut in half. My neighbors watched in amazement as my good old truck started right up and yanked my trailer off of the pole and back upright. Everyone cheered my old truck and I joked that it was a truck, farm tractor, and a tornado shelter as well, since it's the only thing that survived. Chevy wasn't kidding when they said "like a rock". The wind was hitting it so hard that it blasted some paint off of the drivers side, and still, the truck didn't move an inch from where it was parked. I was so proud of that old truck that I couldn't help but smile, even on one of the worst days of my life. I'm staying with my parents until I can come up with another trailer. I figure I'll put it back in the same place. I mean what are the odds it'll get hit twice? Man, I love that old, green, indestructible s.o.b. ! | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,262 Bubba - Curmudgeon | Bubba - Curmudgeon Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,262 | Dirty_Gurty,
Sorry to hear about your situation.
But, it is nice to have an up-beat story that you can recount with a smile.
Good luck.

I've often joked that we were really tempting fate by having a trailer park way up on top of a bald hill. Thanks for the well wishes. edit: I put a few pictures of the tornado damage in the link below.

You really do have a great attitude towards this situation when most wouldn't! I like your truck by the way. | | | | Joined: Aug 2011 Posts: 687 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Aug 2011 Posts: 687 | Glad you are OK. A friend of mine had a great idea the other day. He suggested a winch and gin poles. I think I might do it. It'd be fun to be able to drag and lift stuff with my tornado shelter. | | | | Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 7,442 Bolter | Bolter Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 7,442 | "Whats the odds of getting struck twice"? Just ask the folks in Moore Oklahoma. By the way my daughter is in Cleburne today and tomorrow for training on her job. RES Energy Services.

Best wishes,

Just a mile away it toppled an empty slab silo onto a shed.Old mother nature can be unpredictable. | | |
