i went to order a radiator and guess what they are out and wont have any for 4 weeks ,, i hat to pay 400 for a brass radiator ,,, geeeeeee

A recore can cost more than that so I think it is a good price.

Do you have a good local radiator shop? You should be able to get the original recored for under $400, especially if you go back with a stock core. I had mine done, had a core put in that's good for 600+ horsepower, run me right at $360.

i been reading that lower the mixture will help my temps ,, i am running 50/50 now distilled water and green anti freeze ,, like i said i been reading that running less anti freeze will help i would have to change it come winter,, but no big deal , what your guys take on this ??

A 25/75 mix will cool approx 15-20 degrees more than a 50/50 mix... if Cooling is your goal. If your overheating at all this would be an easy help (notice I didn't say "fix")

My recore ran the same as LongBox's.

50-50 is what all brands recommend, the "lower mixture" would refer to those who think 80-20 or such gives more freeze protection, straight antifreeze doesn't cool as well .... if you're having heating problems, you need to clean/check over the system, it's not the coolant mix

I guess we should clearify the ratio a bit?
80% h2o/ 20% anti freeze will cool better than 50/50 but won't protect from freezing... which I think is why the auto manufacturers recommend the 50/50. It is the optimum minimal for both extremes.

if you are having heating problems at 50/50, it isn't because you have too much anti freeze.

i got my rad back today ,, he said it probably is due to black paint on the fins ,, got me ? , anyway i got a new alum on the way i got it at a discount due to the top tank is discolored ,, i might paint the top and bottom tank anyway and also i got a elect fan too ,, this sucker is going to run cool lol

Are you looking for a radiator because your engine is overheating, or it is leaking? Is it actually hot? Have you double checked the temp with a known gauge? Does your thermostat work? How hot is it actually getting? If you put an electric fan in front of the radiator it can actually interfere with air flow at highway speeds and contribute to overheating (not necessarily though) You need to look further into this, as a brass radiator actually transfers heat better than an aluminum, although there are other factors involved there. There is no reason to have to add another fan, the original set up is completely adequate for a stock engine, even for a considerably modified engine for that matter. I took my truck through death valley, it never wavered. As far as the black paint, just how much black paint is on it? All the radiator shops I know actually paint them after they do the work on them, but it is a very light coat, and I think it is some special paint.
