Hi Everyone - New Denver Stovebolter here. This site is great and the people are fantastic. This is my first post and question as I have already gotten many answers from past discussions. Hope I am not violating any introductory protocols.

The clutch and brake pedals in my 52 truck have about 1/8"-5/32" side play in them at the top of the pedals. I've read about the challenges of replacing the bushings due to them being too thick for the shaft so I wanted to know if this much play is acceptable? It feels like a bit much but I have nothing to compare it to. Since I've got it stripped down to the frame ready to sandblast I wanted to make this determination first. Thank you for any advise you have or telling me if this is in the wrong forum.

If you are going that far now is the time to replace them. Its been a long time since I have done one but it shouldn't be a problem. If it just needs a little you can hone it out with a brake cyl. hone. If you are replaceing the pin you can grind notches in the end of the old one & use it for a reamer.

They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing.

Thanks Wrenchbender. Some things are just easier to do while you are already there and I guess this is one of them.....

Not sure if that kind of play is acceptible but none the less I replaced mine.

I bought my new bushings from Jim Carter and had no problem at all replacing them. Found a socket in the tool box and drove out the old ones and then froze the new ones and then drove the new ones right back in. No need to ream the new ones to fit the shaft just lightly coated with bearing grease on they went right back on. I would go ahead and do it now while you are thinking about it.

Thanks TrknGMC. I just got new ones and they are definitely a tighter fit so this should take care of it.
