I have a 1955 2nd series 1/2 ton GMC. Somewhere along the way my brake pedal return spring went awol. I ordered one from American Classics...but I can't see how it is possibly correct.

I've read that the spring goes from the pedal to the master cylinder box....the spring I got is WAY too long to attach there. So either the spring is wrong or I have no idea where to attach the other end.

Could someone please send me a picture of a stock set up. Where exactly the spring attaches and a good picture of the spring itself would be great. I know I could find a random spring at a hardware store that may well work, but I want to know what is original and need proof if I am to try and get my money back. I have a 55 shop manual, but it only has one illustration and does not show the entire spring, just the pedal side.

Tad

I'm not sure which manual you're using ('55 Chevrolet perhaps?), but here's the manual page from the '55-'59 GMC Maintenance Manual http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com/gmc/5559mm/5559mm173.html
It shows how the spring mounts better than the Chevrolet manual does.
I'll see if I can get a good pic of the spring on my Chevrolet, there is a possibility they might have sent you the clutch pedal spring, which is similar, but longer.

The manual I have is for 1955 Chevrolet and GMC...but I guess it is a Canadian version and 1955 only...if that matters.

The link you sent shows it well. Thank you.

I ordered a clutch pedal spring too and they sent a "regular" looking spring for the clutch. I'm thinking that it is right though....haven't tried it yet though.

I'll have to give them a call tomorrow and see what they say. The picture in the manual is enough for me to be 100% it is wrong.Perhaps they sent one from the first series by accident?
