I replaced the upper mast bearing in my '46 last night and it went well until I went to put the horn button back on. At each step, I would hook up the battery to make sure there were no shorts. When I put the horn button on, no matter what I tried, the horn would blast. When I took it apart, the spring sent things flying and I wonder if there is supposed to be some sort of insulator between the spring and the button. Any advice would be most welcome. Thanks.

The position of the column in steering gear box can affect this. The cast piece under the steering wheel has to be free to move. Hard to explain. The center steering column is the negative return. The piece with the wire must be connected to positive and not touch ground.

I pulled the steering wheel back off and sure enough, the mast jacket was too high up. A few taps and it now functions. Thanks again GWWirth.
