Just today my parking brake will not engage
here is a quick video of whats going on.

...video...

...quick time...

I checked the bracket fasteners and noting is loose.
would like some ideas on what to look for.

dose the release bar ever need to be filed or dressed?

thanks for any ideas

There is a coil spring behind the piece that goes around the pedal rod. Looks like that spring is broken and not pushing the lock into place.

Looks like it is laying almost flat on the floor.

Is the release lever hung up? I beleive there might be some adjustment on the release handle? Try turning the handle some and push in to make sure it is not stuck.

1948-51 Chevy truck manual page 5-6

try removing the floor mat and any added padding from under the lock guide so pedal lock can pivot. Also the shiny new paint may make it too slick to catch.

Ill look at the spring and lever after work today.
I should of pulled back the mat and jute padding last night.

The rod has powercoating and has been working great since I reinstalled everything 3 years ago.

just not sure why it quit grabbing all of a sudden

Thanks

Slight adjustment in the release lever at the pull is all it took.
The brake knob has a jam nut that spun down a bit.

Just a half a thread is all it took.

Thanks for the clues.

Glad it worked out! I had to do the same exact thing. Looking forward to your next video!
