Greetings:

I have a 1959 Viking 50 LCF with a bad drag link. From searching this forum I believe that the part is 3729933 "Steering Connecting Rod". Are there any sources for this part or does any one know part numbers for building one from tie rod ends or drag link ends from more current medium duty trucks?

Thanks,
Randy

Chances are one needs to look under '55-'59 similar GM trucks to find a good one. Or, don't know what the configuration is(px), one could find one too long and cut it off, re-thread it if that would do.

'37 GMC T-18 w/ DD 4-53T, RTO-610, 6231 aux., '95 GMC running gear, full disc brakes, power steering, 22.5 wheels and tires.
'47 GMC 1 ton w/ 302, NP-540, 4wd, full width Blazer front axle.
'54 GMC 630 w/ 503 gasser, 5 speed, ex fire truck, shortened WB 4', install 8' bed.
'55 GMC 370 w/270, 420 4 speed, grain, dump bed truck from ND. Works OK.

Not very many old big trucks around my area. In fact, I have the only one I have seen in about 10 years. I was pretty much thinking I would have to make one. The steering box is is forward of the axle with the drag link extending to just in front of the axle with the wheels straight. The pitman moves fore and aft. Looks to be about 17.5 inches center to center and is a straight bar. Looks like the 1 ton, just longer. Just have the measure the big and small end of the tapers and see what I can find.

Thanks,
Randy

I also have a 1959 Viking 50 LCF. I am also in need of this part with no luck so far. Have not been able to cross GM number to any other jobber. Please let me know if you find something and I will do the same.

I believe you are looking for the following part...

Steering Connecting Rod Assembly 55-59 Ser. 5 (exc. P/S) w/ stud (5/32 dia. hole in thd. end) 3729933.

Hope this helps...

Right. That's the part I have been unable to find. Guess I'll take it apart this weekend and start measuring to see what I can come up with.

Thanks,
Randy

I contacted Rare Parts and am sending my drag link to them for replacement if they can match it up or repair if not. Will let you know how it works out.

My new drag link is on the way. They were unable to match it, so they built a new one. It should be here this weekend.
