For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: May 2005 Posts: 234 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: May 2005 Posts: 234 | Hey...
I have a 1966 C30 Chevy Truck.
I noticed the other day that my signals were not working. I then noticed tbe radio would not turn on. Also the parking lights, brake lights and the dome light would not work.
My wipers, horn and headlights work. The oil and volts lights on the dash also work when you turn the ignition on.
All of the fuses are fine.
When I started the truck this morning, the radio came on (I assume everything else worked as well) for about 30 seconds, then went out again.
What am I missing here? Everything was working fine for about a week since I took it out of winter storage.

I took out the test light and there is no power to the radio and tail light fuses, but power is at the wiper etc when the ignition switch is turned on.

Disconnect connectors and clean contacts. Fuse boxes have various HOT bars for various circuits. Maybe that hot bar has a loose batt supply. Sometimes power comes from the turn signal switch and it's wiring, so be aware of that. If those non functioning items have a common ground, Check that or supply new test ground. I would say a bad/going bad fuse but if they are all not on the same fuse, then not that.

I am thinking maybe a bad ignition switch?

What you said is also possible, check switch to see if there is a feed to fuse box, if so, does switch operate properly. Remove switch and let hang for testing with probe. Remove neg batt cable before removing switch, then reconnect to test switch.

I have a 62 Chev car that does and have had issues with the electrical in that area due to bad contacts. Just something to check if that's your setupid.
