Hey Guys,
I have a question.I have a 53 gmc panel and have the little arm that attach to the top of the doors to limit how far they open. I have the holes on the top of the door where they bolt to,but cant seem to find where they bolt to on the body. I know this should be pretty simple,just want to make sure they are in the exact location. Any help is greatly appreciated.

MNSmith's photos are of Suburban "stop arms".

The panel truck doors' stop-arms have a notch in them, for part-opening and full-opening (to back up to a loading dock).

Manley, on my panel, if I open the doors all the way, they hit the tail lights. I had to make adjustments on the arms to prevent that.

A 47-54 panel truck with original, single tail/stop lamp in the original location should be no problem with doors full opened. Has anyone had a problem with this?

The dual tail/stop lamps in the locations designated on the installation template should be out of way of fully opened rear doors.

On the panels, the doors and door stops were designed to goto the full 180 degree in the open position without hitting the taillights. If it is hitting the lights are not mounted properly.

Do you have pictures showing the taillights and the doors open? Remember these taillights were installed by the dealer or someone else outside of the factory, they were not factory installed.

I have seen door checks installed with a bolt /nut and washer in the slot to prevent the doors from opening in the full position.

It barely hits, the lights are actually not exactly correct, now that I think back. They are from a '39 Olds and may be an inch longer than the correct panel lights.

The rear doors on my Suburban do not come near to touching the 47-55 "bullet" dual tail/stop/signal lamps.

This template was used. If you print/use this template, you can be sure you have the correct scale by measuring the 3/4" hole.

Suburban doors do not open as wide as panel doors. As George noted the panel doors were designed to open wide enough to back up to a dock.

Looking at MNSmith's photos, I have the suburban stop arms. Would these work on a panel?

I would assume they are interchangeable.

rnterchangeable yes, but they do not open 180 degrees and they fit the headliner differently. Tim posted the two styles. earlier. The panel checks are more common too.

where would I find a pair of the panel checks/arms?
