the gritty details i don't know, and i'm not the one that did the install, but i think the mallory used an optic trigger whereas the pertronix is magnetic. | | |

It has a spining magnet and a pickup coil/brain thingy that fits entirely in the distributor. So it still looks stock, other than an extra wire coming out of the distributor (if you care). | | |

Install was as easy as described above. 'Course, I'm keeping the old points just in case it fries someday, but I have faith in it. | | |

Getting ready to purchase a pertronix kit for the 305 in my 67, original motor blew so the PO replaced it with a 305D if that makes a difference. A friend of mine is willing to offer me his 91162A Ignitor 2 for cheap if it works for my application.
