I just purchased a new clutch kit for a 1951 chevy three on the tree,not because it was bad or slipping but because 60 year old friction material had me worried.The question is the new pressure plate is lighter than the old and since AZ does not want a CORE,I was going to put the old heavy pressure plate back with the new disc and put the new on the the side for later. Any pros or cons on doing it that way? Thanks for any feed back.

60 year old friction material has you worried, but 60 year old pressure plate springs don't? there really is no 'pro' for not installing a complete clutch kit while it's apart, especially if you have it, the 'con' is you'll likely be doing the work again sooner if you don't .... and don't skip having the flywheel resurfaced

OK can I get the springs any place?I do not get rid of any thing that might still be useable.Work was never a problem doing things over cash was .

I suppose you might find some NOS somewhere - you already spent the cash on the kit, use it, save the old one for a doorstop, maybe you can put it back in some day
