I've read and heard some good things about this stuff. I was wondering if anyone had some long term personal experience with a vehicle painted with it in terms of the durability and UV resistance as compared with other single stage paints. It seems to be priced somewhere between the PPG Omni (MTK) and PPG Concept (DCC). I'm looking for a cheaper alternative to the DCC that's closer to it in performance than the OMNI MTK which is crap. And, yes, I know a lot of durability issues are related to surface prep and proper application.

I don't have much experience with the Ful-thane, but in the little I have my main complaint about it is the colors never match right. You always have to make sure to get some extra colorants so you can "doctor" whatever color you have mixed up to get the correct color. Some colors aren't even close. If that's the biggest problem with it I could probably live with that because usually it's only one or two of the colorants they are off on the measurement of.

Please no comments about base/clear. I don't like using it on the original trucks I paint because I don't like the way it looks on them. I'll do custom trucks or cars with it but that's a different topic.

You might look into ProSpray or Wanda. Not well known but in another forum I read they are very well regarded for price/coverage/matchability.

The store I worked in sells Wanda automotive paint. Several local shops now use it. Wanda offers both base coat clear coat and single stage paints.

Is there a place to get Wanda online?

I've tried Prospray and it seems like good paint. Had to order it from Michigan. They don't have the old Chevy colors in their database unfortunately and the place I wanted to buy paint from couldn't cross anything over from PPG or Dupont.

Even though PPG Deltron paint has gotten very expensive they seem to be the best source of any old color you could want.

I wish their was a company that had more affordable good quality basic paint that could cross over PPG or had the old colors already in their database.

Seems like I shot something with Imron a long time ago but I can't remember what it was like. It used to be the most durable paint on the planet. It was Dupont's fleet paint for OTR trucks, planes and the like.

I'll look into that. Thanks for the tip.

I sprayed it for the for the first time about 6 months ago.
There is a storage facility down the street from our shop, they asked us if we could spray a couple of roll up doors for them if they brought them to us, which they did.
we were going to use the Nason ful-thane , but our supplier suggested the Imron. I was amazed at how well it sprayed.
You can plow that stuff on & it will not run.
Im seriously thinking about using it when I do my truck. you can even get it in Flat, Semigloss, or regular gloss.
RM's Uno is good also, I like the way it lays down, & it seems to last. I may go that route if I dont go with Imron.

It's getting harder and harder to find good single stage paints any more that can be mixed in the old colors, let alone those that are half-way affordable, since the refinish business has totally gone base/clear. It shouldn't be that way because SS and BC are usually mixed from the same toners in most lines.

I've been using a lot of SPI products lately and like them because of their performance, service, and support. They recently started carrying a few SS colors, so they are my #1 choice now for anything black, red, or white I need to paint. Unfortunately most of the stuff I do aren't those basic colors.

The only paint dealer I have available to me locally is a PPG one and I have no interest in dealing with them any more for a variety of reasons. I have Dupont and other dealers available to me 30 miles away but I would rather not have to waste my time and gas traveling just to buy paint, so it would be nice to find a place (like SPI) where I could get SS paint with just a phone call or online order.

Any ideas?

I am using Ful-thane on my '52 and I like the way it sprays. Very easy to use in my opinion. Hopefully it will hold up well.

I too am using the Ful-thane on my 37. I'm shooting single stage & having no issues. So far, cab still looks really good after 6 months outdoors.

Yes I used it on my truck....and use full thane to paint my antique fans as well. Sprays well, shines nice and the place down the road gets my colors right...I don't leave my truck in the sun much so cannot say anything bout the uv. It is vitimn D deficient ...I did clear it with a few coats so that changes things

I choose my colors on paintref and bring the codes to them.

Have used Nason products on 3 vehicles and am very pleased with each. And.... gotta love the price compared to Dupont.

Please correct me here but isn't the Nason line made by Dupont?

From what I understand the DuPont paint division was bought by Axalta.
All of the DuPont products are supposed to remain available.
