I do not use sealer.
One thing I do is clamp each of the four ears in my vice, one at a time, and bend them back a little.
They get bent forward with use compressing the shims over time.
This assures a better clamping force on the shims.

Check the posting over on the Vintage Chevrolet Club of America (VCCA) site there was a tech tip a while back about replacing the cork seal with a large O-ring. Know a few friends who have tried it and have had no leaks or drips with the O-ring. Ask the JunkYard Dog I think he wrote the article. If you don't get a response I will see if I can locate the article for you.

Sometimes they are it depends mostly on the mood of the moderators on the site, I searched my old copies of the VCCA magazine's and came up with article it was orig. ment for the 29 to 33 chevy's but not much about the universal joint ball changed in the years that followed. The O-ring is a National # 327 the National part # was 622730 and the dimensions for the O-ring are: 3/16" thick with an I.D. of 1 3/4" and O.D. of 2 1/8" if you send me your email address I will send you the whole 2 page article.

Given 41Chevy's description and P/N, Oreilly's carry this item. Let us know how it works out if you try it
