In the February 2013 issue of Skinned Knuckles, there was an article about a new type of carburetor needle valve. I'm getting ready to rebuild the Rochester carb on my 216, and I want to order a rebuild kit from that company, but I can't find my copy of the magazine. I was thinking I would have to buy a back issue of the magazine, but then I realized that this is a perfect use of the Stovebolt Forum. Does anyone have a copy of the article? If so, could you give me the company info?

Thanks

My mailings come in three month increments because I live in Canada. I will check to see if I have it yet. However, if you are a subscriber, you should be able to read it online.

I just called the publisher, and you can't read the magazine online.

Which article is the information in? I have it online now.

It may be that international subscribers can read it online.

OK, I found it for you. The information is in the March issue under "Unusual Products" and the company name is the Daytona Parts Company. It seems that the valve seat is named after their company.

I don't see a kit for a Carter W-1 at their site. The pump has
always been a problem when used with alcohol.

It seems the aftermarket gave up on the W-1 carb. The only way ive been able to get a kit for one is through the specialty supliers. There have been a lot of different configurations of needle & seats through the years but the tapered needle seams to be the old standby.

Nothing new about the valve in question. It appears to be the old Parker Brothers valve from many years ago.

As to the FLAPS aftermarket repair kits:

There are currently 3 manufacturers (of which I am aware) that produce the aftermarket kits. Regardless of what name is on the box, the inner kit comes from one of these three. I don't know much about one (don't like their parts), but the other two have a rough guideline that if they do not sell 1000 of any given kit in a year, they obsolete the kit.

Speciality carburetor kit manufacturers do not have such criteria.

Jon.

Good carburetion is fuelish hot air
The most expensive carburetor is the wrong one you attempt to modify.
