The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Engine Shop oil rocker arms ?

When I was adjusting the valves on my 235 engine in my 55 1st series I noticed that very little oil was coming out of the rocker arms for 4,5 and 6 cylinders where as 1 through 3 had a lot of oil. There appeared to be a small hole in the bottom of the small tube that supplies oil to the rocker arm . I plugged the hole but that did not change the oil problem to the last three cylinders. Is that hole there for a reason? the engine was rebuilt about 15,000 miles ago and has run good . I was thinking maybe it is time to rebuild the rocker arms . Does anyone provide that service THANK for any help.

I know my machine shop is fixing my rockers and if they need parts they order them. Do you know if the rockers match the motor i think the rockers were changed in 1958 or 1959. I know pre'68dave has a good explanation of this in a couple of posts he answered.

Iam pretty sure they are the original rocker arms but they said they had to get another head. They did not say what year.

You should have a look at the rocker arm tube for the back three cylinders. See if the oil holes are pointing down as they are supposed to.

Because the engine angles down to the rear it is uncommon for the rear rockers to starve for oil. I would suspect the rear shaft is sludge up.

Thanks for the input. It looks like that hole is suppose to be there. I might as well have the complete rocker assembly rebuilt. Any ideas who does that work .
