can i start working on my brake system before the truck actually needs them or should i finish the drive train and engine first??

I did my entire brake system when I had a rolling chassis.

I finished my brake system before anything else.

No one says you have to have any one system done before the other, however, it does help to have most of the major ones done before that first test drive.

I did my brakes before the motor, trans were installed. Then installed the motor and trans since the pedals mount off the trans. After that I did the brake lines and ebrake.

When I was younger I always built the motor and spent money on everything else first and drove the truck with less than great brakes . These days brakes are always job 1. As I have aged my priorities changed. :>)

also, will the master cylinder rebuild kits for the little trucks fit the 1.5 ton master cylinder in my truck?

The brakes & fuel system are systems you are going to have to go through. I think it is best to get the engine running first & make sure the clutch & gears work. Then you will be able to make a plan.


They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing.
