Is the barn door lock the same as side door lock? If it is not can it be made to work? If it can be made to work what needs to be done?

I have already altered a door handle and fitted it. I am talking about the lock itself.

The lock itself is the same, but attached to the lock is a rod that goes into the latch. that is different. So if you have the orignal lock, you can disassemble it and use the orignal locks rod.

This is the answer I needed, thanks. So many times I have traveled down the path my mind has led me, only to find myself in deep doodoo. Reading and searching this forum has helped me greatly.

I have the original lock, but the key is long lost and I can't find an old enough locksmith to rekey it. So I will buy a new door lock and refit for my back door.

If the lock has a code number you can have a key cut to that. I know the push button locks were stamped but can't remember if back door one has it or not.

When I get it out I will look for the code...but after all these years it may have been rekeyed...but worth a shot.

BTW Don, the rod is very easy to change. It is mearly clipped to the shaft of the lock cylinder.

I thought that I had read that somewhere but could not find it. I changed my rear handle and altered the shaft for that...came out perfect.
My truck was in a shop accident a few weeks ago. In the shop for some front suspension work and was being moved and the brakes failed. Smashed up my front pretty good and scratched another trucks tailgate. My front end is lowered and my front went under the bumper of the other. Hagerty is great!
