I had sent mine to Dr J up in Oregon to see if he could finish taking it apart and get it re-chromed. He is doing a great job and sent me these pix of an old one from the mid 30's which is completely restored. Said these are worth a grand or more. Dunno what years these were offered as a dealer add on but I love them and proud to own on. He said the ones with the round ball handle are the really early ones...mine is like that so not original to my 49 pu. Here's some pix of the resto'd one..mine was pitted so won't turn out this well.

He said the originals had curved glass lens but mine was flat. I suggested he try a glass or frame shop to get a piece of curved glass which he will do.

That is exactly the Sportlite that came new on my 1931 chevrolet. Indeed the glass lens was curved. The only difference is the turning knob is a black bakeolite material and not yellow. Did you have the oval tag on the housing as well?
good find!

Yep, mine has that tag...'GM Sportlite"...and the round ball on mine is black also.. Do you still have it ? I have found sources for parts if you're interested..
