Guys,

I found out yesterday that a salvage yard that has tons upon tons of classic large truck parts is up for sale. I wanted to pass the word along to the Stovebolt community so that you guys can email me any parts that you've not been able to find. The vast majority of the parts are for really large trucks. The owner has tons upon tons of old school buses (Chevy and GMC), large transmissions, 1960s 1 1/2 - 2 ton trucks, etc.) He has 292s for days. In fact yesterday I spotted a couple of 292s in an old trailer he didn't even realize he had. I even remember seeing a 261 in a '61 or '62 2 ton dump truck. So email me your "wish list" of parts and I'll see if he has them.

The owners (a husband and wife team) are in their 70s for sure. But I'm not sure if he's retiring or being "forced" out by "progressive development". His salvage yard really stands out (if you know what I mean) in a very rapidly growing suburb of Atlanta. Just a few years ago that area was considered very rural. It's a shame to see it go. The husband said a lot of this stuff will just be crushed soon so get your lists together soon.

If you want the fastest response just them them a call. My truck is an hour away from me with no engine and no transmission so it'll be a few weeks before I can haul anything. The name of the business is Alsobrook's Garage in Hiram Georgia and the number is 770-943-3490. Owner's name is George.

If you are going there for any reason, I need a hood spring for my 62 C60 2 ton dump truck. Not an easy item to find, and not an easy hood to open without it.

Tony I can check into that for you. Aren't the springs for the 2 ton trucks the same as those for the 1/2 ton for the 1962 model year?

I thought that too but someone said the hood is bigger on the 2 ton.

Oh no.

Maybe you should post this in the Lounge too. We need to make sure everyone here is aware of this.

Hey ftyler

Let me know if you see any of the following:

Any '53-54 chevy sedan parts, torque tube 3 speed trannies, fenton headers (for a neighbor), or mid-late 60s pontiac V8 engine parts.

thanks

Tony M,

This morning I saw a big '62 (at least engine date was D281) at the yard. The hood slid off so the hinges are probably gone. I'll look closer next time I'm there.

ftyler, Any '47-'54 COE's in there. Too bad I didn't know about it last summer. I was in the ATL. for about a week. Got any pic.'s from in there.

Wow, I live in Marietta and I didn't know about this. I think I know the junk yard you are talking about though. I second the question of whether there are any COEs in there. Is this place listed in the yellow pages? If not can you give me directions?

I would be very surprised if there were no COEs at this place. It is located just south of Hiram on Hwy 92. From Marietta you can either take the 120 loop or Macland Road westward until you reach Hwy 92 (about 10-15 minutes). Then turn south on 92 and once you reach the Hwy 278/92 intersection continue for ten more minutes and the yard will be on the left. It's in very clear view. There is nothing else around it. It's called "Alsobrooks Garage"; number is 770-943-3490. The owner's name is George.

All those who've asked me to check on parts - don't give up on me!

I stopped by early this morning with parts list in hand. The owner was out sick and there was his wife (who knows NOTHING about the parts inventory) and some young guy "filling in" (who knew even less than the owner's elderly wife). So I'll try back again next weekend. Maybe sooner.

Take care!

I need the mythical power steering pump bracket for a 292. If you think he might have one, I'll give him a call.

thx, eric

eric,

Now that part he absolutely has. I've been eyeing it myself. If he denies it then I can give you description of the vehicle that it's in. It's a 1966 50 series truck. Huge truck with a big boom on the back (an old bucket truck).

Later!
