Hi Folks,
Am getting ready to take my 55 series II 1/2 ton out of the garage and go for a ride.
Last year when I replaced the brake shoes and drums, etc., I noticed that the front left wheel had some play when I pushed/pulled it at 12 o'clock and six o'clock. I could move it in and out about 1/8 -1/4 inch.
How much play is OK? Is there an easy way to determine if anything is worn out and needs replacing?
Many Thanks

There acualy should be no play in any of those parts. That said a lot depends on what you want from your truck. A little play in the king pins is tolerable. If it still has the original tie rod ends & drag link, they are adjustable. Make sure all the grease fittings take grease & lube the kinhpins especially well.

They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing.

If your wheel bearings are not loose and the movement is coming from the king pins, I would advise repairing them. Eventually the slop can damage the spindle holes and then you would have to look for replacements.
